Keep Our NHS Public (KONP) is a national non-party-political organisation campaigning against the privatisation and underfunding of the NHS. We are the Cheshire group of the KONP for people either living or working in Cheshire. We were established in May 2021 by activists from across Cheshire and especially by members of Unite Community Cheshire, Crewe and District Trades’ Council and West Cheshire Trades Union Council.

We have a Group Facebook page which you are invited to join. Please make sure you answer the 3 membership questions. The link to the Facebook Group page is here:

You can find out more about KONP from the national website from this link:

You do not have to be a member of the national KONP in order to be involved in our Cheshire KONP Group, but you are encouraged to join national KONP as an individual member. If you join nationally, there is a subscription fee to help cover campaigning and running costs which are either:

Saving the NHS

Our NHS is under threat; we’re on the front line trying to protect it. Protesting against closures to Accident and Emergency units, campaigning head-on against the privatisation of the NHS and supporting our members at work when they are forced to go on strike.

We campaign for more social housing and an end to ‘revenge evictions’ by ruthless landlords. Unite Community is leading the fight for more council homes and rent controls.

Fighting Welfare cuts

Where the government cuts benefits, we oppose it. Leading a national campaign against the cruel and hated Bedroom Tax and when benefit sanctions cause misery on the unemployed, we stand against them. Unite Community member’s support each other and we train members to assist in helping members appeal when their benefits have been sanctioned. We oppose workfare and other unfair attacks on the unemployed.

Transport – part of our local Green agenda

Unite Community also leads local campaigns, calling for better local bus routes, against removing freedom passes from the elderly and disabled and we have been in the forefront of establishing a coalition fighting for free buses Better Buses Coalition West Cheshire. Local services

In Unite Community we fight to keep vital services open such as youth centres, libraries and Sure Start centres. Where poverty and hardship lead to food banks in our communities we’ve made donations to them and set up clothing banks. If we stand together and campaign we can win.
